History

We measure our success in light years!

Established in 1971, we started as a domestic manufacturer of decorative portable lighting with a commitment to quality and competitive pricing. We have since grown to become a global company with the vast resources and the capabilities to offer a wide selection of proprietary designs and technology that are the brightest designs in home lighting today.

1971 – Alsy manufacturing started in Long Island, New York by two men, Al and Sy. Hence the name.

1984 – Alsy Corporation formed as a result of a merger between Alsy manufacturing and Cycle II Corporation.

1990 – Manufacturing operations moved to Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, about 40 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

1992 – The Cresswell lighting brand was launched.

1995 – The Company became a preeminent supplier to big box and specialty retailers.

2002 – Alsy and Cresswell was once again enhanced with the advent of our new IT systems and management approach that offered new opportunities and forged us into new markets. Emess Design Group was formed.

2004 – Emess Design Group acquired the brand J. Alexander, a market leader in lampshades and bases. J. Alexander is where the phrase 'Mix and Match' originated.

2005 – Emess Design Group heralds new channels as a premier marketer in the home center and big box market with private label offerings.

As we move into the future, we continue to re-create pathways to provide the marketplace extraordinary design, technology, quality, accents, and light.
